                                                                                          Boys Basketball

Interview with Coach Dunda about boys basketball.

Maryli: How many games has B team won and lost?

Mr.Dunda: The B team has won 5 games and lost 5.

Maryli: Has the season been fun or not so fun?

Mr.Dunda: It’s been a lot of fun. We’ve had an exciting season.

Maryli: What are some challenges of being a coach?

Mr.Dunda: The time away from my family. Making sure it’s the best positive experience that all the athletes can have.

Maryli: Do you think it would be harder or easier to coach 8th grade? Why?

Mr.Dunda: I think it would be harder to coach 8th grade, to get them ready for high school.

Maryli: Would you rather coach A team?

Mr.Dunda: Not necessarily I like challenges I coached A team for 6 seasons and it’s a diffrent challenge coaching the B team.

Maryli: do you think the boys have had lots of growth so far?

Mr.Dunda: Yes, I think they’ve grown a lot this season because they’re passing better, know where to be on the court and what they do in practice they’ve done in games.

Maryli: Why do you like coaching basketball?

Mr.Dunda: Basketball is a fun team sports that requires team work but also allows individual growth.

Maryli: Why did you chose 4 managers instead of 2 or 1?

Mr.Dunda: The four I chose did a great job and did all the requirements when they applied to be manager. Also it seemed fair.

Maryli: What expectations do you have for managers?

Mr.Dunda: To be at practices and games and always available for help when needed.

Maryli: Do you like all four managers that you have?

Mr.Dunda: Yes, I like all four because they’re nice young ladies.

Editor's note: Maryli was one of Mr. Dunda's 7th grade managers.

Girls Basketball

               By: Isabella Lawrence

Girls basketball is offered as a sport to 7th and 8th grade girls. Many 8th grade girls are going out for basketball which started November 30th. The 8th grade A team’s basketball coach is Coach Coop (Craig Cooper) and 8th grade B team’s coach is coached by Di Lorenzo. The 7th grade basketball season also started November 30th as well. The head coach is Chris Alton. Andy Dunda is 7th grade B team’s coach. During the weeks before Thanksgiving break Coach Coop and Coach Alton held open gyms for girls who wanted to get a head start on basketball. Getting a head start is going to help make the girl season a great one.

Boys Basketball

    By:Trinity Grant

Boys basketball is a sport offered to 7th and 8th grade boys.  In each grade the team is divided into an A team and a B team.  The 8th grade A team has won a couple of games and been competitive, while the 8th grade B team has been competitive but come up short of victories.  Coach Dustin Simoens quotes “Overall it’s been a good season the kids are competitive with one another and other teams I’ve seen a lot of improvement.  The athletes are starting to learn each other's tendencies and we have beat our rivals CB twice!”  In 7th grade boys basketball the A team has won 6 games yet lost 6 games.  The 7th grade B team has won 7 games and lost 7.  B team coach Andy Dunda sums up the season, “I’m pleased with how the A and B teams have won some games over teams who have played together a lot longer than we have.”  Boys basketball is a great way to stay fit, have fun, and experience some healthy competition.

Worlds Most Popular Sport missing at Middle School

          By Gabe Rosas

There are many sports that are missing at Gunnison Middle School, especially soccer. To begin, soccer should be a sport offered at Gunnison Middle School. Soccer is missing at Gunnison Middle School, and many kids want to play soccer over football and other sports.

Second, soccer is safer than other GMS sports. In sports such as football, students get injured more often, especially with concussions. Soccer is a sport you can play well into adulthood, unlike football.

Finally, soccer is growing more and more in population. Each year there are lots of players who come and play soccer at tthe rec. center

My conclusion is that we need to offer soccer as a sport in Gunnison Middle School.
